Ignorance about asbestos is the greatest
danger.
From our experience we
have learned two things:
- Information about asbestos is not always
accessible or necessarily correct and it needs to be readily
available, in an easy to use format with assistance for
all, and
- We must do all we can to prevent exposure
thereby reducing the incidence of asbestos related disease
now and in the future
Our simple objectives are:
- A contact point for sufferers through a
network of centres, Australia wide
(for example jointly with ADFA)
- To make freely available online - easy to
understand awareness information and safe paths to action
for all Australians
- To harness the energy, resources and commitment
of like minded people
- To engage the resources of government,
business, unions, community organisations and individuals
to assist us to achieve our shared goal of 100% asbestos
awareness - nationally - in 5 years.
- A referral point for service providers (for
example Asbestos & You)
We present a number of practical ideas, tasks
and actions that we can all be a part of.
These include:
- Raising the
awareness of asbestos with your family, friends and
colleagues in business and in the community.
- working together to target
the high risk groups who may disturb asbestos containing
products. These include:
- home owner do-it-yourself
people
- trades people - contractors
who may work in or on your home
- Builders undertaking renovations
- become a participating
partner to raise awareness of asbestos in your community.
If you are a government organisation,
business union or community organisation
you can become a participating partner and make a difference.
- ways you can assist in sponsoring
the 100% asbestos awareness goal
by providing resources to get the message around.
- continuous
development - we invite any organisation to use this
website as a point of contact for increasing the awareness
by the community on their asbestos related research and
initiatives.
