THE Asbestos Diseases
Society of South Australia has a commitment to providing counseling,
support and information to those who suffer asbestos related
conditions, and the families of those victims.
The Asbestos Diseases Society of South
Australia (ADSSA) was formed on 16 June 2005 in response to
some gaps in service provision for asbestos victims and their
families.
ADSSA has support from members of the public and professionals
and employs a fully qualified social worker.
ADSSA liaises with other state asbestos
support groups, including Victoria, Western Australia and
New South Wales and provides a 24 hour hour hotline. It also
sends out a monthly newsletter.
ADSSA also holds a monthly support group meeting at our Hurtle
Square office on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
ADSSA has over 60 members, the majority of whom are victims
of asbestos related diseases and the widows of asbestos victims
and their families. Our members regularly come along and attend
our Asbestos Support Group meetings every month. Morning tea/light
luncheon is provided after the guest speaking presentation
and open discussion.
Not all victims attend our Support Group meetings as they
are often too ill to attend, but we do keep those victims
informed of what is happening through our ADSSA Newsletters.
The newsletters go out each month to members, doctors, social
workers, unions and other organisations.
