The Asbestos Diseases Society of Victoria (ADSVIC)
is a volunteer run,
registered not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting
people affected by asbestos related diseases (ARD). The Society
offers peer based support and works to eliminate asbestos
exposure through advocacy and increasing community awareness.
The Society's aim is to be a caring, respected
and effective service that:
- Supports those exposed to asbestos,
with a particular focus on those suffering
from an asbestos related disease and their families;
- Raises awareness of the dangers of
asbestos exposure;
- Provides a resource of information
regarding asbestos;
- Works to prevent exposure of the community
to asbestos;
- Advocates for and supports medical
research into the early detection and
treatment of asbestos related diseases;
- Works with other groups, governments
and corporations in relation to asbestos issues
ADSVIC is overseen by an elected Committee
of Management consisting of seven volunteer members who manage
the affairs of the organisation. ADSVIC provides a range of
community awareness and support programs, these include:
- An Asbestos Related Diseases (ARD)
Support Group which meets regularly in Melbourne;
- Providing facts and information sheets
for asbestos related issues at ARD Support Group meetings
and awareness functions. ARD Support Group Members also
have access to ADSVIC's ever expanding library of reference
Books, DVDs and CDs;
- Social functions for members;
- Asbestos Awareness activities in the
community throughout the year and during Asbestos Awareness
Week in the last week of November, including our annual
Commemoration Service.
